about

Everybody’s Going Somewhere….

I used to live out near the freeway.
Shared a house with a love of mine.
At night, when I couldn’t sleep, I used to listen to the cars rushing by, used to picture those people hurtling through the night and wonder where they were all going to.
Or coming from.
Sometimes, towards the end of our relationship, when things were turning bad, I used to get in the car, take a left out of the drive, then a right, then another right and hit the freeway hard. Get straight into the thick of all that speeding metal and leave everything behind.
Just drive.
Used to think I’d find the answer out there some nights, but everybody’s too busy watching where they’re going to help out. Got their eyes glued to the road ahead like some kind of maniacs looking for the answer to it all.

Sometimes I wish that road had never ended, and I’d still be driving through that endless night, radio blasting top 40 pay-dirt, wind rushing in through the window.
Cigarettes burning up the night.
Forever young.
The answers coming thick and fast.

lyrics

Everybody’s Going Somewhere

Head out the drive,
Turn left, then right, then right again.
Hit the freeway hard,
And slip alone through the night
Slip alone through the night

Head into the night,
Just like a shooting star.
But don’t tell no one,
And don’t believe all ya hear.

Cause everybody’s going somewhere,
Yeah everybody’s going somewhere.
Oh everybody’s going somewhere.

Head into the night.
Just like a shooting star.
But don’t believe all you see,
And don’t tell no one
Cause it’s a secret,
Oh oh it’s a secret

Everybody’s going somewhere x 3.
